Grooming Van and Trailer GENERATORS

November 11, 2007

Mobile grooming generators can be a confusing topic for some groomers. That’s because a lot is discussed on popular Internet social sites but real information is rarely brought up. For example, a prudent consumer conducting research has recently asked for opinions concerning the generator that GT uses and the following responses had little to do with the question–mostly fragmented thoughts about a different brand.

Therefore, here are some thoughts to consider about generators:

Notice that ALL the big converters, (GT, Wag’n Tails*, Odyssey*, and Hanvey) tend to use ONE brand of generator. That brandGT Generator is ONAN. A major reason is because conversion companies (the good ones) are interested in building vans or trailers that WILL LAST.

Notice that the “discount” conversion companies who specialize in building cheap quality salons use brands OTHER than Onan (one may use an Onan PORTABLE, but not one built for use on a trailer).

Keep in mind that there are different STYLES of generators. The quality conversions use RV generatorsnot PORTABLES. This is because RV generators are designed to be used in a mobile application AND for several hours each day. Portables are not! In addition, most portables WILL NOT be backed by the manufacturer’s warranty if used in a mobile setting.

GT uses the Onan LP because the commonality of fuel for the hot water heater and the generator makes YOUR job easier.

LP generators are cleaner.

The 3600 watts that the GT generators produces is more than enough to run ALL or your equipment. A popular (AND WRONG) notion among mobile groomers is that “bigger is better” but nothing is further from the truth. A generator that is too big will waste fuel, waste money, waste space, and add weight to your trailer.

GT hard-wires the generator DIRECTLY into your trailer. There is a remote switch inside the trailer so you never need to exitGT Generator the trailer to manage your equipment. We also install a device that will keep your equipment from being overloaded if you were to have both your shore-line AND your generator in operation. Those are just some ways GT goes the extra mile.

GT has a fully welded cage build specifically for us to install the generator on the tongue of your trailer. We don’t just “U-bolt” them on. Also, Onan RV generators are built with a protective shroud that keeps water and winter grime from damaging the generator.

It is illegal in some states to place a propane tank within 10 feet of a gasoline generator. Even though some converters still do this, GT will not. That is one more reason we use LP generators.

GT has NEVER had a customer complaint about their generator or use of their generator. We stand by our decision to provide only the best products.
