Aluminum Or Steel. What’s Best For Mobile Grooming Trailers?

August 20, 2007

We at GT Grooming Trailers won’t cut corners. Even when it comes to selecting a trailer shell for the conversion, we make sure to use the best. Our trailers have tubular steel frames - not aluminum.

The idea of an aluminum grooming trailer is popular for some mobile groomers because they are inherently lighter in weight compared to a steel trailer of the same size. Some groomers even believe that aluminum is stronger - don’t fall for it, look for qualifications like “pound for pound”. It’s sort of like the old question, “What’s heavier, a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers?”

Aluminum Trailer Company even solicited us to use their trailers. They explained that they have sold a couple through a lesser known converter and wanted to find a converter that could move their product. We entertained the idea for a bit, but after review, decided to stick with a proven, strong, steel framed trailer shell that doesn’t rely on “tape” to keep it together (yes, tape).

GT Grooming Trailers are the most popular light, easy to tow, mobile grooming trailers on the market. Our strong steel trailers (even loaded with water) weigh about 2,600 pounds. Our customers are towing their GT trailers with some of the smallest SUVs out there, so there’s no need to sacrifice on strength.

Don’t be fooled by those saying that aluminum won’t corrode. If you have doubts, I’ll send you some chunks that will prove that myth wrong! Quality steel framed trailers are dipped in a protective coating to prevent rust.

We understand, the words, “aluminum trailer” just sound good! They sound good but after the initial impression wears off, the facts seem to speak otherwise.

Come on, if aluminum was better, GT would be using it! And speaking of light, the GT Grooming Trailer is priced right.
