Van Propaganda

I recently read an article written by the proprietor of a company that converts vans into mobile grooming salons. The article was to make the case that vans with generators are better than salons without generators because “plug-in” designs can only operate with 10 amp dryers. It also said that some dogs could take up to an hour to dry because of it. The article also said that the average lifespan of a mobile grooming van is 10 to 15 years!

MY REACTION: The truth is that plug-in designs can operate up to 15 amp dryers and will enable most dogs to be bathed, dried, and groomed in less than an hour. I know this because we groom over 2,500 dogs each year with our own plug-in design. Also, a 15-year-old van looks and operates like a 15-year-old van. Imagine the miles put on that thing! We “compete” with some mobile services here in the Denver area against vans that look fifteen years old and we end up with their scared off customers all the time. If what you are looking for is a mobile salon that will last fifteen years, then purchase a trailer. Trailers require little to no maintenance and do not show their age like vans.
